The Memorial Dr. António Agostinho Neto dominates the Luanda skyline. This futuristic monument honors Angola’s first president, who declared national independence in 1975. The soaring concrete structure looks like a rocket rising over 120 meters into the air.

Workers started building the monument in the early 1980s. Officials officially opened the complex in 2012. Today, the site holds President Neto’s sarcophagus alongside a cultural center and research library. Visitors can explore museum galleries that highlight his life, poetry, and political work. Beautiful park grounds surround the site along the waterfront. It remains a powerful symbol of modern Angolan identity.
