Restaurante Chilala is a unique getaway located on the edge of the Kwanza River in the historic Vila de Calumbo within the Viana municipality. Opened to the public in 2018, this dining spot has gained massive popularity as a weekend escape from the urban density of central Luanda, situated roughly an hour and a half drive away past the Centralidade do Zango 8000.
The defining feature of the establishment is its rustic wooden deck architecture built directly over the water, earning it a reputation as an immersive floating restaurant where diners can feel the gentle swaying of the river currents. In 2022, the venue expanded its availability to include 24 hour operations with specialized nighttime menus. The kitchen focuses heavily on authentic local national gastronomy, with charcoal grilled fish, traditional mufete, and grilled cuttlefish serving as the signature culinary highlights. Aside from the casual dining experience, the location leverages its natural riverfront geography to offer leisure activities including motorboat excursions and kayak rentals along the Kwanza River.
